Salvage and Stuff

I was driving back from a business trip this past week and I stopped off in White River Junction to browse one of my favorite salvage sites, Vermont Salvage. Located in a wonderful old building, they have a fabulous selection of vintage sinks, doors, columns, and hardware.

The building itself is a bit hard to access if you use a mobility device, but once inside there's a big wide aisle with lots of room. You can't get upstairs (or, at least, I didn't see any elevator) but there's plenty to occupy you downstairs. Every time I go in there I have to force myself away from the sinks - old school sinks, soapstone trough sinks - so many, and so lovely. Fair warning, they are on the pricey side but usually in very good vintage condition. Look at this adorable one they have with the plumbing and taps on the side:

And here's a photo of their selection of old columns leaning up against the wall, ready to come home with you and live on your porch.

This time they were a little low on old light fixtures but they often have a good selection. You just have to keep checking back. It's a great way to spend 45 minutes or so poking around - even if you aren't really on the lookout for something.

Do you have a favorite salvage haunt in your area?

Until next time,

Ohh, I have a weakness for salvage! And I’ll be heading up to VT next week — maybe I can make a detour and check this awesome looking salvage shop out. Thanks for the tip, Brenda!! Those columns are calling my name :)
